چکیده

Random Hermitian matrices are used to model complex systems without time-reversal invariance. Adding an external source to the model can have the effect of shifting some of the matrix eigenvalues, which corresponds to shifting some of the energy levels of the physical system. We consider the case when the n× n external source matrix has two distinct real eigenvalues: a with multiplicity r and zero with multiplicity n − r. For a Gaussian potential, it was shown by Péché [32] that when r is fixed or grows sufficiently slowly with n (a small-rank source), r eigenvalues are expected to exit the main bulk for |a| large enough. Furthermore, at the critical value of a when the outliers are at the edge of a band, the eigenvalues at the edge are described by the r-Airy kernel. We establish the universality of the r-Airy kernel for a general class of analytic potentials for r = O(n) for 0 ≤ γ < 1/12.

Small Scale Effect on the Buckling Analysis of a Double-Walled Carbon Nanotube under External Radial Pressure Using Energy Method

In this paper, using energy method, small scale effects on the buckling analysis of a double-walled carbon nanotube (DWCNT) under external radial pressure is studied. The constitutive equations derived for a DWCNT using the nonlocal theory of elasticity which Eringen are presented for the first time. By minimizing the second variation of the total energy for a DWCNT, hence, the value of the non...

Limit of Gaussian Random Matrices with External Source, Part III: Double Scaling Limit

We consider the double scaling limit in the random matrix ensemble with an external source 1 Zn e−nTr( 1 2 M −AM)d M defined on n×n Hermitian matrices, where A is a diagonal matrix with two eigenvalues ±a of equal multiplicities. The value a = 1 is critical since the eigenvalues of M accumulate as n → ∞ on two intervals for a > 1 and on one interval for 0 < a < 1. These two cases were treated i...

Random Matrices with External Source and KP τ Functions

Due to the unitary-invariance, we assume A = diag(a1, . . . , an), ai ∈ R without loss of generality. We consider Zn(A) as a function of eigenvalues of A, and find a KP τ function property of it. Zn(A) arises in the random matrix model with external source [7], [8], [23], [24]. Let A ∈ H be an n × n Hermitian matrix, and V (x) be a function defined on R, such that e (x) decays sufficiently fast...
